Vesta Anderson Cole, beloved mother and grandmother peacefully passed away on June 20, 2019.
Vesta was born in St. Louis, Missouri, September 7, 1922 to Ora Tillman Anderson and Harry Anderson. She had two younger brother, Harry Jr. and Wilbur James Anderson, all of whom preceded her in death.
The family moved to Chicago where she attended Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church with her paternal grandmother and in later years with a friend and co-worker, Inez Gray. She graduated DuSable High School, Class of 1940 where she met and later married Arthur Cole. To this union a loving daughter Sondra was born. Arthur preceded her in death in 1959.
Vesta and Sondra enjoyed many years of fun together. They visited Riverview Amusement Park, attended rodeos, circuses, ice shows, and live Regal Theatre stage shows. They also took trips to St. Louis and Niagara Falls.
Vesta worked many years for Western Electric and the Main Post Office in downtown Chicago, until her retirement in 1988. At this time, her mother became ill and Vesta daily took the bus to care for her at the Alden Wentworth Nursing Home for 15 years.
Vesta enjoyed traveling, cruises, and was involved in many social clubs. Most recently, NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association) organization. She tutored a senior citizen to learn to read bringing joy to that lady.
Her pride and joy was being around her granddaughters and her great grandsons.
She leaves to mourn her daughter Sondra, son-in-Law James, granddaughters Kathy Green and Sheryl (Wendell) Gates, great grandsons, James and Gabriel Gates and many cousins, friends and neighbors.
We were blessed to have you so many years. Hope you have a beautiful afterlife.
