Barbara Ann Cosby was a blessing born on December 27, 1933, in Lexington, North Carolina, to the union of William and Irene Hargrave. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Henry Cosby. She passed from this earthly existence on Monday, December 10, 2018.
Barbara was the second child of nine siblings that included sisters: Eunice Mae, Dorothy, Catherine and Helen; brothers: James, Bruce, and Raymond. Her surviving sibling is her sister Irene.
She attended East Orange High School in East Orange, New Jersey. She later trained for a career in cosmetology at the Donald Payne School of Cosmetology, in Newark New Jersey, where she excelled in the craft. In time, she became an entrepreneur and owner of a successful ‘big city styled’ beauty salon in the small Jersey Shore town, Atlantic Highlands. It was always the talk the town and was often frequented by renown celebrities who were visiting or passing through. Nevertheless, Barbara’s greatest love and energy were always focused on her family and siblings.
Barbara lived a life of abiding faith as an adherent in the Baptist denomination in congregation at various church homes. She was a voracious reader of Biblical scriptures and never failed to offer scriptural words of encouragement and comfort in her conversations, greetings and farewells.
In life, she was a proper and well-spoken woman whose friends delighted being in her company. Her enduring legacy is her reputation for taking care of her family. Whether sending them to college or assisting them in some manner with life’s various challenges.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Pamela A. Rashid (Kalem Don); son, Harlan Cosby; granddaughter, Jerletha Bri’ean Cosby; great-grandchildren; Harlan Cosby, Jr., Elijah, Anijah, Jahsun, Faith, and London; along with scores of loving relatives and friends.
