Bettye Jean (Herring) Parque was born in Birmingham, Al. and was the youngest four daughters born to Hamp and Addie Herring. The family lived in Clayton, Al. where she was educated at Snow Hill Institute. She attended Alabama State University and after graduation she married Wilhelm H. Parque and relocated to Chicago in 1954.
She attended Chicago Teachers College and began her employment with the Chicago Board of Education in 1954 were she remained until retirement in 1993.
She became a member of Grant Memorial AME in 1956. Her love of children led her to become involved first in the Nursery Club and the the Sunday School Dept. She remained a Sunday School Teacher for over 40 years and was Director of Vacation Bible School for many years. At the time of her passing she was President of the Altar Guild and a Class Leader.
After her retirement she spent her time traveling around America as well as visiting South Africa and Alaska. She was active in the local AARP Chapter and her beloved Alabama State University – Chicago Alumni Chapter.
Bettye was classy and sassy. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle wizard and a Suduko queen. She loved the theatre and enjoyed spending time with the Don Nash Senior Club.
Bettye Jean Parque entered eternity on July 25 2019. She was preceded in death by her her parents, her husband Wilhelm and sister Mattie Belle.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Darryl Parque (Carla), Karen Parque-Benton (Jerome), grandchildren Nikao and Kristy Parque, sisters Vivian Boykin and Lois Williams, nieces LaTonya Boykin, Oveta Carey and April Belle and nephews Carl Belle, Dwight Williams and Caleb Boykin.
