Loretta Williams was born December 21, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, to the union of Calvin Sanders and Mary (Madison) Sanders. She was one of five children, and the youngest daughter. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents as well as her siblings, Melvyne, Pearl, Calvin, and Carl. She was born in her home at 4615 South Evans. Her parents were devout Christians, and Loretta accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a child. The family belongs to Grant Memorial AME Church.
Loretta led a blessed life. She was 92 years old at her passing. She was always full of love, wisdom, hope, and humor. Loretta had a kind word and a generous spirit all the days of her life. She never hesitated to help others when the opportunity presented itself.
Loretta was a loving child, devoted to her parents and siblings, and credited her long life to the fact that she honored her mother and father all the days of their lives.
Loretta Sanders was married to Wilmer Williams for over 30 years, and from their union, Ann, Katrina, Theda, Wilma, and Calva were born. Wilmer Williams preceded her in death.
A high school graduate who worked over 15 years for the Chicago Board of Education as a lunchroom attendant at King High School, Loretta had many talents and was extremely creative. At an early age, she enjoyed learning various arts and crafts at church. She was a gifted seamstress and interior designer. Loretta was also an exceptional cook and homemaker. Everything she did was with a spirit of excellence and generosity.
Loretta enjoyed life to the fullest. Loretta was a world traveler, and during her lifetime she would visit France, England, Australia, Kenya, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Alaska, and the Caribbean and Hawaiian Islands. She never met a plane ticket she didn’t like.
Often she would ask, “How old am I?” When told she was 92, she would exclaim, “God has been so good to me!”
Loretta made her transition on Wednesday, November 6, 2019. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory, six children: Ann, Thomas, (Marsha), Katrina, Theda, Wilma, and Calva (Kenny); a host of treasured grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law: Dorothy, Roberta, and Jeanette (JB); a devoted niece and nephew: Ursula and Benny; a devoted caregiver: Belinda Iwe; two oldest and dearest friends: Cleo Julian and Mary Jones; and other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
